Airplane Air Quality – What You Can do About It

If you are a frequent traveler, by air, you have probably thought one or twice about the quality of the air inside the aircraft.  I know that being seated by a person that is obviously sick, makes me very concerned.   I try to keep my face the other way and I turn the air nozzle above me right toward my face and hope that the air coming out will be clean and keep me from getting sick. I am not sure that any of that makes any difference but here are some things that I have researched that can help to know.  It really doesn't matter if the flight is a short hop or a long flight to Madesimo.  Some of the things you may be exposed to on a typical commercial air flight are:

  • Inadequate Ventilation
  • Polluted Air Supply on Ground
  • Exposure to Heated Oils and Hydraulic Fluids
  • Reduced Oxygen During Flight
  • Inadequate Attention to Temperature Range
  • Exposure to Potentially High Concentrations of Pesticides

First of all, you should be aware that some international flights will actually spray insecticides in the plane before you board. I know you may not want to think about that, but it is true.  This is done for everyone's  safety, but if it is done too close to boarding some residual may be in the air. Not much you can do about it, but you should be aware anyway.  Especially if you are extremely allergic to strong smells or maybe have asthma. Although a high quality face mask might help with this, it would be kind of extreme to put on a mask.. ( I know some do though).
Secondly, the air quality in most modern day aircraft is actually quite good. Many Boeing planes actually filter about 50% of the air circulating through a HEPA filter, which will remove all sorts of airborne particles, viruses, and bacteria. Some may even use carbon filter to help make the air smell good. This is really good to know because you can point the nozzle of you air flow at your face and breathe this air knowing that at least the number of particles is being reduced.
Thirdly, you can buy a device that you plug into the existing air flow nozzle to filter your air even better. This device is called a Pb Travel Plane Air Filter
planeair

This further filters the air you are receiving to provide a curtain of clean air for you.   This really makes sense if you are worried about air quality when flying.

Lastly, a word about air filters in general. A good home air purifier,  such as the BlueAir Air Purifier line of equipment can make a tremendous difference in the quality of the air you breathe.  Home air purifiers have come a long way and deserve some investigation if you are the least bit concerned about the air in your home or office.

The Cessna 140 – Start Here

Cessna aircraft feature several models. All are among the finest aircraft for anyone keen on flying.

Cessna 140 is a light and beautiful airplane that many prefer. Its characteristics make the aircraft also very suitable for those flight maniacs who are not experienced enough. The plane is not very powerful; its 85 horses make it as powerful as any average car. The average speed of Cessna 140 is about 140 mph and for that reason flying on this aircraft is a great pleasure. It has one passenger seat and many people actually use these planes for sightseeing.

Among the rest of the benefits of this model is that it needs only 750ft (236 meters) ground roll to take off and 460ft (71 meters) to land. Since the requirements are not big it is the perfect private plane.

A significant downside is that the fuel tank of Cessna 140 model is small. It is 22 gals meaning that the plane can fly for about 4 hours at 65% power. On the other hand it is an economy plane as it uses only 4 gals of fuel per hour.

There are many Cessna 140 aircraft available for sale. The easiest way to find one is to look for a local club or a community of Cessna fans. The people there would be able to advise you about the aircraft available as well as for the average prices.

Since Cessna models are not modern airplanes it is likely that you are not able to find a plane in a perfect shape. If you are not aware of the specifics of Cessna 140 aircraft or know nothing about planes it is best to buy one only after you have arranged a professional to examine the aircraft.

The other option is to look for Cessna 140 for sale that has been refurbished or even modified. The most common modifications for the 140 model are the metal wings. Originally Cessna 140 is made with fabric wings. However they are hard to maintain and for that reason many people use aluminum sheets. You may come across Cessna 140 with landing gear extenders.

Finally if you are seriously looking to buy Cessna 140 aircraft make sure you are aware of all the documents you will need - for the purchase and afterwards. The easiest way to find out what you need is to ask someone who already has this kind of plane or to visit the International Cessna Association website.

The General Aviation Cessna 172 Skyhawk

It appears the most popular playing in general aviation in the history of mankind is the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. Over 35,000 have been sold and you can find these aircraft in airports around the world. Cessna aircraft Corporation has a proud history in general aviation and has become the largest general aviation aircraft manufacture in history.

Why has the Cessna 172 sold so many? Well, because generally people learn how to fly in a Cessna 150 and then they wish to take their family or friends and the Cessna 172 is a logical progression, as it holds for people and is not very expensive or complex to fly. The Cessna 172 also gets very good fuel economy and although it does not hold very much it is quite a bit cheaper than the next upgraded model the Cessna 182.

You can ask any general aviation Private pilot if they have flown a Cessna 172 and there is a 90% chance that the answer will be yes because so many flight schools have them for rent along with many flying clubs. Many private pilots who end up buying their own aircraft she was a Cessna 172 because of its simplicity and availability. It is doubtful that any other aircraft will ever surpass the Cessna 172 as the most popular aircraft in general aviation of all times.

If you are considering buying an aircraft of your own a Cessna 172 will surely be on your list and although it may not end up your first choice the availability of used aircraft for sale makes the Cessna 172 Skyhawk a possible option. Please consider all this in 2006.
